If you think that communicating with your friends and family via email is safe then you are right.
Unfortunately, however, you could be your own worst enemy and jeopardise your online safety if you make silly mistakes.
The following 3 tips should help you avoid that so read them well -
1. Never give your personal information to strangers.
Communicating with other people via email can be great fun but they don’t need to know everything about you.
If you have any doubts as to who they are then keep your personal information to yourself.
Details such as your phone number and address should be kept especially close to your chest.
2. If an email conversation ceases to be fun put a stop to it.
If an email conversation turns sour then stop replying.
You can easily delete past messages and block the contact from sending you any more.
3. Get help if you need it.
If you feel like you are being harassed or stalked then stop communicating with that person and block them.
If they find another way to abuse you then seek help.
Typically, your parents would be the best people to inform and they will almost certainly be able to help you find a solution to the problem.
Remember, though, that email really is a great way of staying in contact with people and is a service you should enjoy.
Many kids don’t experience any problems but if you do then the tips above could help.
